Contact Dermatitis and Patch Testing
The Contact Dermatitis Clinic at Midwest Center for Dermatology - Clinton Center was established to help diagnose possible skin allergies in patients with rashes refractory to medical treatment.
Patch testing is the technique performed to diagnose skin allergies. Patches containing possible skin allergens are applied to the skin with tape, left on for 48 hours then removed. Initial and final readings are done to see if there were any reactions to any of the suspected allergens applied. There are no needles used in patch testing.
