Acne

A common skin condition caused by clogged pores, resulting in whiteheads, blackheads, red bumps or cysts.

What is it?

Acne is one of the most common conditions we treat at Midwest Dermatology. Symptoms of acne appear when oil, dead skin cells or bacteria congest your skin. Most patients experience red, inflamed skin or pus-filled bumps on the skin’s surface. Hormonal fluctuations, genetic predisposition and specific medications can trigger or worsen acne. Acne blemishes primarily appear on the face, neck, chest and back. Symptoms can vary from mild to severe with untreated acne increasing the risk of permanent scarring. While not inherently dangerous, some patients find that acne has a significant impact on their self-confidence. Good news! We are here to help.


How is it treated?

Midwest Dermatology offers both medical and cosmetic dermatology acne treatment to help you achieve your goals. Common treatment options include prescribed or over-the counter topical medications, prescribed oral treatments, microdermabrasion and laser therapies. Regardless of the treatment we recommend, our board-certified dermatologists are experienced in clearing acne and warding off future outbreaks.
